Bible Quizzing Testimonials
How might Bible Quizzing impact your child’s spiritual growth?
“I recognize false doctrine easily. I won’t be sucked into any cult! Most of the scripture I have memorized, I did so during my time as a quizzer. The more I studied the scripture, the more I loved it. Many of my best friends were also quizzers, giving me a great group of peers who would encourage me positively. It gave me a solid foundation to build my faith upon. The study also gave me assurance of my salvation.”
“I can look back now and see the amazing impact on lives of quizzers, including me. Many of them ended up being sold out for Jesus… next generation Christian leaders. I can’t imagine anything else with the same type of impact. Many parents put their kids on travel sports teams. There is great value in sports competition, but in my book, the impact is not to the same effect as that in Bible quizzing. They say you are known by the friends you keep. As a whole, the friends in quizzing seem to be of such a higher character than the friends of sports teams. Bible quizzing creates a whole “family” of people seeking God together, committed to learning the Bible and competing together. What a great community. What a great purpose!”
“Through quizzing I have gained a familiarity with the scripture that made understanding the Bible more approachable and less foreign to me.”
“In my first year of bible quizzing, I mainly memorized just to win. Over the years though, my love for God’s word has grown, where now, at 19, I memorize to know God and His commands. Bible Quizzing gave me a solid biblical foundation throughout high school and into young adulthood. Over the course of 8 years, I had the opportunity to study alongside my peers about half of the new testament in depth, while being mentored and led by my coaches. In my post high school years, I have seen the payoff for memorizing and studying so much of the New Testament. When engaging new ideas, or discussing theology and biblical concepts with others, I KNOW what the Bible has to say because I have studied and memorized it. While many programs can do this in some capacity, Bible quizzing is by far the most effective method I know of to train and motivate memorizing the Bible. Through the competition element of Bible Quizzing, I learned to work hard, to be intentional in encouraging others, and to compete with kindness and grace. Through memorizing the biblical content in quizzing, I learned to prioritize the study of God’s Word. Through the mentorship of my coaches, fellowship with other quizzers, and the work of the Holy Spirit, I learned to desire and love God's word out of a desire and love for God.”
Why is Bible Quizzing worth prioritizing in your family's busy schedule?
“Quizzing is an awesome way to prioritize God in our children's lives. It creates a safe, fun, Bible based opportunity for young people. It’s awesome to see the support and care quizzers have for each other. They celebrate and cheer for each other as well as empathize and help each other. They learn to work in teams, have a strong work ethic and great time management.”
“Bible quizzing gave my daughters everything I hoped team sports would—teamwork, accountability, sportsmanship, learning to follow instruction—without consuming our family's calendar. But the deeper gift was this: by prioritizing it, we showed our children that God's Word is worth prioritizing. That lesson has outlasted any trophy. Some of their favorite memories now center on Scripture, and I can't think of a better return on our time.”
“I've never found anything else as effective at motivating young people to hide large portions of God's Word in their hearts.
“Quizzing was the number one best tool to help me memorize God's word, and the place where I made my deepest Christian friendships, most of which are still very involved in my life. The mix of intentional mentoring, encouragement, friendships, and learning Scripture together, I couldn't find anywhere else.”
“Quizzing has been such a wonderful tool in helping me learn the Bible, grow in leadership/initiative, grow in confidence, learn self discipline, social skills, how to welcome new-comers, and step out of my comfort zone. It's something I really want for our children in the future.”
“Bible quizzing jumpstarted my young adult life with about ½ of the New Testament either memorized or deeply studied. I now have both a filter and a foundation for adult life built out of thousands of bible verses. I gained through Bible quizzing strong relationships with coaches and fellow quizzers who support and encourage me in my walk with the Lord. Bible Quizzing proved to me that memorizing large portions of scripture is attainable for the average person, and therefore it should be prioritized. The mere conviction puts me a step ahead of most young adults in the church. I don't say this to flaunt any greatness, but I am grateful for the values that have been instilled in me and how these values have served me and will serve me.”
How much Scripture can your student memorize in Bible Quizzing?
“Adults consistently underestimate what children can do. My six-year-old proved it without even trying. She wasn't a quizzer, but within her first month of simply overhearing her sister study, she had memorized dozens of verses. The following year she took on the book of Hebrews and memorized most of it nearly word perfect. Bible quizzing has a way of revealing capacity you didn't know was there.”
“When I first started quizzing, memorizing 50 verses over the course of a year sounded near impossible, and so I mainly just read the material for familiarization. In my 3rd year I decided to work really hard and memorize the entire passage for a specific tournament, and that tournament was the most fun at quizzing I'd ever had! The next quiz year I set my mind to memorize the entire 21 chapters of Romans and James for the year, and Acts 1-16 the year after that. I learned that memorizing depends mostly just on commitment, not a born-skill. I only wish I had believed it was possible sooner, and memorized the material for my earlier 3 years. It's work, but so worth it! But whether you memorize the whole thing, just some, or simply read it over and over, you're treasuring God's word in your heart.”
“Bible quizzing proved to me the ability of an average person to memorize huge amounts of information. As intimidating as it sounds, it really just comes down to commitment and hard work. I started Bible Quizzing in 6th grade expecting to memorize just a few chapters, and then to read and study the rest of the assigned material daily. Within a few weeks though, I realized that memorizing really just took time and effort, and proceeded to memorize all of 1st and 2nd Corinthians over the course of the school year.”
What are some of the concerns or fears involved in diving into Bible Quizzing?
“I remember thinking, ‘I’m too busy to memorize books of the Bible,’ but I gave it a try and loved it from the very beginning. I participated as a Bible quizzer until I graduated from high school. By that time, I had memorized a lot of New Testament scripture including John, Matthew, Acts, Romans, I & II Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians,Colossians, Hebrews and James. Memorizing scripture is hard work, but the lure of the quizzing drew me in and kept me happily studying! My parents never had to push me to study. I wanted to do it. The competition was fun and I enjoyed traveling for tournaments and meeting kids from different states. (I even met my husband there…a big win!!)”
“My greatest fear was that I couldn't memorize well and that I would let my team down by lack of study. God gave me wonderfully supportive coaches and teammates, who encouraged me and valued me as part of the team, whether I memorized or not. In my first few years, God helped me to treasure His word in my heart by simply reading the material over and over again, and in later years, when I had developed more confidence, He helped me memorize the entire year's worth of scripture! This all taught me how to encourage others and lift them up, instead of falling for the trap of playing the comparison game.”
In what ways can your child grow personally through being a part of Bible Quizzing?
“Quizzing motivated me to memorize God's Word, learn how to compete in a friendly way, and make lasting friendships.”
“When I arrived at college, I didn't expect Bible quizzing to follow me there, but it did…and in the best way. The skills I had built over years of quizzing turned out to be exactly what college demanded: memorizing and recalling large volumes of information, managing my time, persevering through difficult material, and knowing how to push hard when deadlines hit. Quizzing hadn't just stored Scripture in me. It had trained me.”
“I love the opportunities in Bible Quizzing for forming godly relationships with others, peers and mentors. The coaches encourage the kids to work hard and study God's word and the kids are motivated through the competition to study God's word. When gathering, there's automatic opportunities built in for devotionals, questions, and challenges from the text. Both when studying and competing there’s opportunities for character growth - hard work ethic, patience, diligence, kindness in competition. The list could go on. The books memorized don't leave! I can still pull verses from eight years ago and they guide me in thought processes and discussions with friends. Especially when tackling various theology topics, I have been equipped with a deep database of verses to sift ideas through. It's also so helpful when studying other parts of the bible to have half of the new testament solidly stored away. Especially when studying the old testament you can read things and go, ‘I've heard that before! Paul must have pulled that idea from here!’”
